Summer Boat Party 2013!

Last Thursday Concept Cupboard teamed up with our friends at BURN, One Water and Twist for a voyage on the high seas, in search of gold and other treasures.

Our vessel, the Queen Elizabeth, was a ship steeped deep in tradition and had played host to the Russian royal family in the 1930′s. It was therefore very fitting, that the upstanding members of our crew graced the deck of a boat with such a prestigious history. This edition of our Thames Leisure boat parties will be joining the Russian Royalty in the history books. We were ready to set off, all crewmates in their Sunday bests.

Shortly after setting sail at 12.00pm from Richmond, our summer voyage was in full swing. However, it was evident that the baking heat was getting to some of the crew members already, good job that they decided to sensibly rehydrate.

Looking around the deck it was awash with different colours, the blue and white striped seamen outfits of my great Grandad’s day were long gone. Instead there were some dodgy looking floral patterns on display that he wouldn’t have approved of, not one bit.

About 2 hours into our journey, the crew were getting peckish, after all it was strenuous work on the biceps all morning. Luckily we had Ollie Hunter who made it to the quarter finals of Master Chef 2011. Judging from the quality of the food it was a travesty he didn’t finish higher. Nom nom Ollie…

With bellies full of food, beer and champagne we carried on like true troopers into the early afternoon. It was a tough job but someone had to do it.

Sadly we had to drop Jules off not so long after lunch. She made a gracious exit and didn’t have to swim for the shore like the schemers in the group were planning. They look like butter wouldn’t melt…

Conversations continued to flow throughout the day and there were many contenders for quote of the day, some too explicit to mention but even with that in mind, one individual (who’ll remain anonymous) took home the top prize with this beauty:

“The best night I’ve ever had out was dressed as a woman”

Unfortunately for this individual, working in an office full of creatives means an image of that night is easily conjured up  :-)

Then there was the “boat race” an epic battle of egos as to which group could finish their beers first. Although team Concept Cupboard/BURN were victorious, in our bid to get very drunk we were in fact all winners.

We hit dry land around 5.30pm, still going strong we set up camp at the pitcher and piano next to the river to see the night out.

One idiot in the group even managed to get themselves pretty burnt, spending some time holed away under an umbrella.

As proceedings drew to a close, we stumbled off on our separate ways into the night. Here’s looking forward to next years voyage on the high seas.
